A
more detailed view of the exterior sculpture; the main arm and the two smaller
arms move 360 degrees and are independent of each other in their motion creating
a dynamic and ever-changing display.

Evan Lewis was selected a finalist
to create a sculpture for the Morris Library that was undergoing an extensive
renovation.
|
|
The sculpture consists of two pieces - an exterior sculpture and an interior ceiling-hung mobile. The exterior sculpture is a wind-powered
spinner that is attached to the facade of the library. A shaft piercing the facade connects the spinner to the interior mobile. The power of the wind
is transferred
through the shaft and a series of gear reductions and it puts the ceiling-hung
sculpture in motion. The mobile moves very slowly and deliberately, no
matter what the velocity of the wind is. On the other hand, the exterior spinner moves very dynamically at times in an interesting contrast to the interior
piece.
|
| The external spinner is about twenty-four feet in diameter when fully extended. The interior
mobile is thirty-six feet high and moves in a cylinder that has a
diameter of sixteen feet. The mobile is elevated about twelve feet
off the ground. |
